Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 Overview

Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 is a complete update of the original Photoshop raster graphics editor developed by Adobe Inc. It is one of the flagship applications included in the Adobe Creative Cloud. Content-Aware Fill Workspace

In addition to numerous improvements, Photoshop CC 2019 included some significant structural changes. Probably the most significant structural improvement added to Photoshop CC 2019 was the redesign of the Content-Aware Fill workspace. While previous versions of Photoshop provided various options for content-aware fill, such as selecting a specific area and having Photoshop automatically select similar areas in the image to fill in missing parts, or allowing you to set parameters based upon colors and textures to define what should be sampled to fill in missing areas, all of these previous methods had limited manual input.

In contrast to previous methods for using Content-Aware Fill in Photoshop CC 2019, Photoshop has now created a completely new workspace specifically for content-aware filling called Content-Aware Fill. Unlike previous methods for using Content-Aware Fill, where Photoshop would automatically sample the surrounding area for missing pieces, the Content-Aware Fill workspace lets users manually specify which source pixels are sampled. Users can then use a special sampling brush provided in the workspace to hand-paint areas they want included or excluded from the sampling process. In addition to specifying source pixels, the Content-Aware Fill workspace provides users with immediate feedback through real-time previews of their edits.

New Features for Image Manipulation

Alongside the previously mentioned updates to Photoshop’s Content-Aware Fill Workspace, Photoshop CC 2019 has introduced other structural changes that provide users with additional ways to manipulate images. The two main structural updates related to manipulating images are the Frame Tool and Proportional Transforming.

• The first major update to image manipulation was the introduction of the Frame Tool. With the Frame Tool, users can create predefined placeholder frames on a layer that scale and mask an inserted image, ensuring it perfectly fills the shape defined by the frame. The Frame Tool is particularly useful because it allows users to quickly add placeholders for photos or illustrations to an otherwise blank document without needing to go back and forth between multiple tools.
• Another important update related to manipulating images was the introduction of Proportional Transforming. Proportional Transforming provides users with a method for uniformly scaling layers. Specifically, if users hold down the Shift key (or the Command key on a Macintosh computer), only non-proportional transformations occur. However, once users remove their hand from the mouse button and release the Shift key (or Command key on a Macintosh computer), all subsequent transforms will be proportional until users again press and hold down either the Shift key or Command key on a Macintosh computer. By making proportional scaling the default transform behavior whenever users resize layers from corner handles, Adobe has improved how easily users can achieve uniform scales in their compositions.

Layer and Workflow Enhancements

• Two other notable updates to Photoshop CC 2019 relate directly to how users interact with layers and layer blending. Both Live Blend Mode Preview and Multiple Undo Default are intended to make working with layers easier and faster.
• The first of these two updates was Live Blend Mode Preview. Live Blend Mode Preview displays real-time visuals of layer blending effects when users hover over each effect type. Previously, users had to select each option individually to see how it would look. Now, users can see exactly how each blending mode works as soon as they hover over it.
• The second update was Multiple Undo Default. With Multiple Undo Default enabled, pressing Ctrl+Z/Cmd+Z will undo each step in an editing sequence. Before Photoshop CC 2019, pressing Ctrl+Z / Cmd+Z repeatedly would undo steps in reverse chronological order, but only one step at a time. As many other Adobe Creative Cloud applications work in a sequential undo fashion, this change brings Photoshop’s undo mechanism in line with others in Creative Cloud.
