Adobe Photoshop CS4 Overview
Adobe Photoshop CS4 introduced in late 2008 as an upgrade to Adobe’s core graphics program. Unlike previous versions, which completely changed the tools with each release, this new release offers little more than the ability to organize your workspace and create a more efficient workflow. Because Photoshop CS4 is a legacy program that works offline as a stand-alone application without an active Internet connection or a monthly subscription, it will remain that way.
The most noticeable difference between CS4 and its predecessors is how images are stored on your computer when you have multiple images open at the same time. Instead of floating over each other, images are now stored in a tabbed bar at the top of your workspace, making it easy to navigate between them, similar to how you navigate between web pages in a browser. This version’s use of OpenGL allows you to view and manipulate your image in real-time while zoomed in to see how it looks, and to scroll through multiple images or rotate your canvas without the nuisance of display lag or image tearing.
The editing workflow in this version of Photoshop has been greatly improved. Adjustments and Masks have been given paneling on both sides of your screen for easier use. It means when making non-destructive adjustments to color or lighting, you will not have to continually open or close menu boxes to see the results. Another new feature is Content-Aware Scaling. If you have an image you want to resize to fit a predetermined space, the Content-Aware Scaling feature lets you resize it while preserving the main subject.
